Traveling to Greece in Summer 2015, I encountered a delightful Greek spin on Pizza - Peinirli (pay-neer-LEE).

Unlike italian pizza, greek pizza is shaped like a little boat and made without tomato sauce. The dough is thick and fluffy. And traditionally, it’s been made with Kasseri cheese, a greek cheese similar in texture to mozzarella, but with a sharper, more distinctive flavor. Toppings for Peinirli are as varied as those for pizza; from meats to vegetables.

The flavor was so robust that I was just in heaven. It was simply unlike anything I had ever ate before. I stopped many times at local bakeries to enjoy greek pizza while vacationing in Athens.

I’ve yearned to experience peinirli again. In exploring peinirli recipes online, I’ve found the most popular recipe, click here, comes from one of my favorite Greek chefs - Akis Petretzikis.

Impress your loved ones with this easy and delicious Greek pizza recipe! It’s something fun to make during the weekend. Kali Orexi.
